Types of College Essay Topics That Every Student Must Know

Essays can be a tough assignment for many students. Although essays mean writing a series of paragraphs, putting one's thoughts in a correct way can be complicated. Knowing the rules to follow will certainly make one's work stand out among the rest. As there are several types of essays, below are the most frequently used and the rules to follow to make one's essay effective.
Expository
This type of essay focuses on an idea and the reaction of the writer. The essay starts with a statement or a question which is answered by the writer by providing his opinion on the matter. The opinion is backed up by a series of evidences or facts supporting the argument. The writer would then conclude the paper in a concise and clear manner. Examples include writer's opinion on an event, humanity and even politics.
Cause and Effect
Cause and Effect is the easiest type of essay as it is concerned with providing readers the cause and the effect or end result. This type allows writers to practice their organization skills while at the same time discussing the ideas they are interested in. The essay starts with either the writer deliberating on the cause, the effect or both. The body would then include details that would support the first statement such as incidents that led to the cause or effect. Topics that are often discussed under this essay type include environmental and civil or human rights.
Persuasive
Persuasive essays involve persuading readers to adopt the writer's view about an idea. In a persuasive essay, writers must choose which side of the argument they want to be on. Evidences must be specific to ensure that the idea that one is presenting is supported. Be logical and objective. Include facts, statistics and experts' comments as they help make the idea concrete; however, do not overdo these as they can bore the readers. Popular topics include drugs, health, gun control and other controversial topics.
Narrative
Narrative essays are like storytelling as writers often write the essay in the form of a story, presenting readers with a particular plot that includes characters, a setting, the climax and the ending of the story. A higher form of narrative essay includes discussion of the point of view of the writer and the purpose of why the paper was written. Details provided in the story help support the point of view as well as explain the story. Popular topics include a person's life, success stories and travels.

After getting a high school diploma, the best thing a person can do is go to college. For a young person, the best major to choose to help them in the future is education. Choosing education as a major would help our society by educating students on a subject that they have never been introduced to before such as math, English, reading, math, and social studies. A young person has the choice to become either an elementary, middle, or high school teacher. An elementary teacher educates students in their basic skills such as math, reading, science, and social studies which paves the road for a student's future. The duties of a middle school teacher are to further the learning of the basic studies for a better understanding of a subject. School is one of the best places to learn how to be independent and dependent at the same time. A student learns to be independent by learning how to believe in themselves by doing their homework and showing up to school to learn. Students learn how to go on with their day in school on their own by not having their parents around. Not only does a student become independent but also dependent. A student becomes dependent on their teachers.

Commit To It Or Lose It Forever

I recently read a quote attributed to novelist Will Self that reads "Always carry a notebook. And I mean always. The short-term memory only retains information for three minutes; unless it is committed to paper you can lose an idea for ever." I couldn't agree more with Mr. Self, having suffered through recall of ideas I thought I would remember. If you are an individual with a voracious aptitude for generating ideas, consider starting an idea journal. It may be an idea on how to prepare a meal better, to improve a process, for a business product, starting a business or writing a short story or novel. There is no limit to the number and types of ideas that you generate. Some will be zany, some will be brilliant, some half-baked; it doesn't really matter as long as you capture the moment for yourself. For 2016, my mantra is "freeing ideas onto paper," and here are three reasons I encourage you to do the same:
  • Brainstorm at your pace. In most instances, journal writing is a daily practice. But let's be real, ideas and thoughts shouldn't be forced but more organic and intuitive born. When you journal ideas, you have the ability to brainstorm and more fully develop the idea as you think through it over time. Having an idea journal allows you the convenience to revisit your thoughts and make revisions or move in a completely different direction.
  • May inspire future action. Timing is everything. Just because an idea manifests into your consciousness doesn't mean that it's time to take immediate action (or take action at all). However, if write it down, it may be the catalyst you need when the opportunity presents itself for you to act.
  • Shows the power of potential. When life takes a turn, it can be challenging to find your bearing. With a bevy of written ideas, it can serve as a go-to source and reminder of potential for past creativity and inventiveness to give you that boost you need to continue moving forward.
Now that you realize there is value in writing your ideas through a journal process, the next step is to take action. There are many ways that you can journal, you can write it in a physical or online journal (my favorite is a journal book), audio record, or videotape yourself. All of these options can be found using pre-installed apps on your smartphone, like Notes, Voice Recorder, and Camera video feature. And if you audio record or video tape, consider hiring a transcriptionist to turn your verbal thoughts into words onto paper.
The point is to pick what works best for your lifestyle and just begin. The best way that you can endeavor to free your ideas and own your magnificence is to begin somewhere other than your memory, and what better way than in your own written words.

Educational Consultants - Assisting Students With College Admissions

Here five reasons how an educational consultant can help your student with college admissions:
1. Educational consultants do not guarantee students admission to any particular college. They do, however, assist students with the college search to find schools that are a good fit and affordable at the same time. They also provide information and assistance with financial aid, scholarships, and the FAFSA form. They know that some colleges are more generous with financial aid and scholarships and encourage students to include a few of these on their college list if they are a good match.
2. Educational consultants have the time and interest to help your student with anything pertaining to the college admissions process. They are available to talk with parents as questions arise. They advise students on what courses to take in high school, when to take the SAT and ACT, college visits, and even do mock interviews to help students prepare for meetings with college representatives. College counseling and assisting students with their applications and essays is their job and they are not limited in the time they can spend or distracted by other responsibilities.
3. Educational consultants make a point of finding schools that are interested in seeing your student graduate in four years, rather than the usual, five, six or more. Paying for two additional years of college can really add up. Most parents would be surprised to see the low four year graduation rate at many schools. The average six year graduation rate for colleges and universities in the U.S. is 54%, yet many schools are graduating 60% or more of their students in four years. This makes better sense to most parents.
4. Educational consultants help to keep your student organized in order to meet all deadlines for applications, supplements and financial aid and scholarships. Students appreciate having a schedule and completing an application so that there is plenty of time to review it before it must be submitted. This helps them feel more in control of the college admissions process. Colleges all have different application deadlines from November through June and many will not accept applications if they arrive late.
5. Educational consultants adhere to strict standards and have one purpose in mind: Helping your student navigate the college admissions process. They are trained in college counseling and attend national and state conferences to continue their professional development. They are active in professional organizations like the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA).
Most educators believe that more time and thought needs to go into college planning and helping students with the college search. Hiring an educational consultant to assist with this process has made a lot of sense to many parents and has helped their students make better college decisions. As one father commented, "If I am spending this kind of money on a college education, I want the best advice I can get."
Susie Watts is an educational consultant in Denver, Colorado. She is the founder of College Direction and has been working with students for more than twenty years. She helps students throughout the U.S. Susie assists with the college search, essay and application process, and provides college planning for students of all abilities, including learning differences.

How Can Anyone Write 30,500 Articles - No Way, Yes, Way

Okay so, occasionally a great online article writer in their own right will contact me and ask me how on Earth I was able to write so many articles. Well, as I close in on the 30,500 article count milestone I received this pleasant email question; "Hello Lance, I was perusing some of your articles. I am a platinum author, and I have 97 articles written. I remember when you had 1000 articles published. I was pretty flabbergasted to see your current article count at 30,475! Just curious what does your writing day look like? How did you accomplish so many great quality articles? I'm working on getting past 300 articles."
Let me tell you having 100-articles online is a very impressive number, and 300 is like wow, so no one should feel unachieved with those numbers, as writing articles is hard work, it takes time. How do I make this work you ask? I spend my time soaking up information, wherever I can find it;
1.) Online News Sites
2.) Newspapers
3.) Coffee Shop Conversations
4.) My own library
5.) Cable TV
6.) Online Videos
7.) Research Papers
8.) Magazines
9.) College Lectures
Now then, armed with all of this information, I create topics to write on, often synthesizing information from many places, plus adding in my own experience, observations, previous writings and then searching to see if anyone else has considered the similarities across domains and niches. Next, I have a few strategies I use, for instance, I use a little production theory to my writing. I create word files with titles and notes, quotes and references to come back too. Currently for instance I have 250 pre-created topics 25-40% done, waiting for the final touches and other tidbits to add, which I may not even know yet, until I see it, or it enters our human news supply chain.
Since, I spend a lot of time reading newspapers, science journals, watching discovery channels, CSPAN, BookTV, and going to coffee shops to engage people in conversation, I always have lots to write about, as this gives me plenty of topics to write on.
Why do I write so much? I want to get information out into the world. Some say quality is more important, but my experience has shown that quantity is also a nice strategy, perhaps at times even more important? You might disagree, but, I am a compelling case study to the other side of the argument.
Mostly, it's hard work of course, as I am writing anywhere from 2800 to 18,000 words a day - speech recognition also helps of course. If you want to write lots of articles, you have to get busy and actually do it. So, enough talk, I must get back to work. Please consider all this and think on it.
